Tickets Now Available for Pensacola Children’s Chorus’s - Showtime
Tickets now available for Pensacola Children’s Chorus’s (PCC) – Showtime, the best of stage and screen! Reserve your tickets for PCC’s third and final concert of the season, scheduled to premier from the Saenger Theatre, May 7, 8 and 9, 2021.
The journey to the Saenger stage during the 2020-2021 season has been anything but typical. Showtime 2021 showcases several unique cultural aspects of living through the past year of plot twist after plot twist, told through the lens of musical theatre.
Look for a twenty-first century portrayal of Bye Bye Birdie’s “Telephone Hour” recreated via a Zoom call with members of our online choir, eSing. Perhaps most relatable for younger viewers and parents alike is Camped Out, performed by middle school-aged singers, featuring “I Won’t Grow Up” from Peter Pan and “Revolting Children” from Matilda: the Musical. This set provides a lighthearted interpretation at the sometimes-strained relationship between teenagers and parents.
“This year’s Showtime takes jab at all the twists and turns we’ve experienced the last 14 months,” says Alex Gartner, Artistic & Executive Director. “‘Rolling with the punches’ has certainly been somewhat of a motto for Northwest Florida these days, and while our communities are facing real challenges, we hope this year’s Showtime can provide a little comic relief.”
One of the most anticipated and humorous sets is entitled “The Sally Saga,” a tongue-in-cheek parody of the events surrounding Hurricane Sally. “From barges ‘breaking away’ to the tunes of Kelly Clarkson, to spotlighting Skanska for their leading role in this undesired plot, this set is sure to make audiences laugh, cry, and laugh while you cry,” says Gartner. To top it off, this set will be performed by PCC’s Gulf Breeze Choir.
Singers will also revive numbers prepared for last season’s Showtime performance which was canceled due to coronavirus precautions. Audience members can look forward to a full-scale tribute to legendary choreographer Bob Fosse (known for the original runs of Chicago and Pippin) performed by Young Singers, an advanced high school choir; and PCC’s middle school-aged singers will recreate a classic fairground, complete with a large “carousel.”
